On November 18, the “Beijing TV Dramas&Movies Broadcasting Season in Africa” will launch, bringing a fresh wave of acclaimed shows under the “Beijing Audiovisual” brand to African audiences, promoting greater understanding between Chinese and African peoples.
A Decade of Stories Bringing China and Africa TogetherSince its inception in 2014, the “Beijing TV Dramas&Movies Broadcasting Season in Africa” has introduced high-quality Chinese TV shows to over 30 African countries in languages including English, French, Portuguese, and Swahili. This cultural initiative has strengthened friendships between Chinese and African communities through beloved series such as The Age of Awakening, Welcome to Milele, Diplomatic Storms and so on.Organized by the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau, the showcase has been held in countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, reaching an estimated 930 million people across more than 40 African nations, driving new heights in cultural cooperation between China and Africa.Bringing New Energy to China-Africa Media CollaborationThe sixth China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum in August 2024 sparked renewed vitality in cultural and media exchanges, broadening the reach of Chinese content across Africa.
This year, the drama Welcome to Milele, filmed in China and Tanzania, stands out as a testament to this connection.
Recognized with a “Special Contribution Award for Promoting China-Tanzania Friendship” by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the show highlights shared values and strengthens the bond between the two nations.
Expanding Digital Channels for African ViewersFor the first time, the showcase season will partner with Transsion mobile phones, which hold over 40% of the African smartphone market.
Through the Scooper app, built into Transsion phones, African audiences can easily access Beijing’s top TV content online, allowing for even wider reach.A Vision for the FutureThe Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau has established a dedicated fund to strengthen international media reach, bringing Chinese content in English, French, and Arabic to African viewers and adding Swahili dubs of shows like Escaping Poverty for East African audiences.
