education sector
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania –June 7, 2024Sahara Consulthas named the10homegrown Tanzanian
EdTech companiesthat will be acceleratedas part ofits inaugural partnership with the Mastercard
Foundation EdTech Felowship.
The Fellowship is an acceleration program designed to support promising African EdTech ventures in
partnership with innovation hubs and accelerators across the continent.In 2023, solutionsbyFellowship
cohorts in South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya reached 2.6 million learners.
Over the next eight months, Tanzania’s inaugural cohort of growth-stage EdTech companies willbenefit
from Sahara Consultmentorship through business and financial support and insight into the science of
learningto preparethem for scale, sustainability, and impact.

Thework of these 10companies represents the transformative powerof educational technoogy in
increasing access to relevant and accessible education across Tanzania.
The 2024 Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellows are: -

1.Shuleyetu Innovations Limited:A school management and e-learning patform providing
automated solutions for learners and institutions through advanced education management and
learning technologies
2.Mtabe:Is a companythat uses artificial inteligence and SMS technology to deliver earning
content to students who cannot afford textbooks and do not have internet access.
3.Smartdarasa Company Limited:Thecompanypractica STEM learning for African students and
teachers using 2D, 3D, AI, AR, and VR, with offline software, SmartDarasa tabs for schools, and
subscription modules for individuals.
4.Infotaaluma Company Limited:Is a cloud-based system improvingeducation by digitally
managing attendance, exam results, and fee payments, connecting schools, teachers, and
parents.
5.ShuleSoft:The company has six-module system (administration, academic, operation, accounts,
communication, digital learning) boosts academic and financial performance, cutting paperwork,
time, and resources.

affordable, portable kits aligned with the Tanzanian syllabus.
9.Fiqra Technologies:The companyimprovesaccess to quality digital and vocational education
and trackslearners' outcomes by creating and distributing content that can be viewed offline,
reaching even remote areas.
10.Taifa Technovation Hub:They addressthe educational gap in rural areas by providing STEM
Teaching and Learning Kits, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity among
students with limited access to practical learning experiences.
Speaking about theFelowship's impact, Joseph Nsengimana, the Director of the Mastercard Foundation
Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning, said, “Through partnerships with tech hubs such as Sahara
Consult, we hope to increase access to quality, relevant,and accessibe learning toTanzania’sand Africa’s
underserved learners through ocally developed, technologyenabled solutions. We look forward to an
even greater impact this year.”
Alongside training, the Fellowshipwil also offer equity-free fundingofup to USD70,000and post
program support for up to one year after the acceleration program. By supporting these EdTech
innovators, Sahara Consut and the Mastercard Foundation aim to advancethe education sector in
Tanzania.

The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Felowship is an entrepreneurship acceleration program designed to
support promising African EdTech ventures. Implemented in partnership with innovation hubs and
EdTech accelerators across Africa, the Fellowship provides select EdTech companies with critical business
and financial support and insight into the science of learning, preparing them for scale, sustainability,
and impact. The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship was aunched in 2019 by the Mastercard
FoundationCentre for Innovative Teaching and Learning and supported 12 African EdTech companies
from seven countries in its first year, reaching over 800,000 learners. The Centre aims to partner with 12
Tech Hubs to support over 250 EdTech companies and reach at least 1.8 million young people by 2025.
